STEM Aviation Project & MACS STEM Aviation Grant
The Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools in partnership with Immersive Education are once again inviting applications for a MACS STEM Aviation Grant for our 2023 intake.
- The STEM: Aviation Project is suitable for students in Grade 5 & 6 and may be suitable as an extension task for students in Grades 3 & 4. The STEM Aviation Project covers a variety of Mathematics, Science, Technology and Engineering concepts such as; Measurement, Speed, Percentages and Percentage Change, Energy, Forces, Electrical Circuits, Critical & Creative Thinking and Engineering Design Principles. The program can be facilitated as an extra-curricular activity, stand alone STEM subject, as part of a Numeracy, Mathematics, Science or Design Technology unit or an integrated inquiry project.
- The MACS STEM Aviation Grant is valued at $3,000 and will provide a limited number of successful schools with all the training and resources required to establish a STEM: Aviation Project in their school. The MACS STEM Aviation Grant will subsidise the entire cost for a school to implement the STEM: Aviation Project in their school context. This includes:
- • A face-to-face professional learning session for teachers. This professional learning session will assist with the developing understanding of both the theoretical and curriculum links for the STEM: Aviation Project. No knowledge is assumed of Aviation concepts, so teachers with any level of experience are invited to join to engage in professional development, and be able to facilitate the project in their schools. The session also explores the practical implementation of the STEM: Aviation Project. When combined with the theoretical components this will allow participants to get a first-hand feel for how the project can be delivered in their school context.
- • Two live instructional professional learning webinar for teachers (after school hours). This will assist with recapping both the theoretical and practical components of the course.
- • All required physical resources
- • A Centripetal Thrust Generator to fly student built planes
- • 25 Single Student Resource Kits for students to build, test and modify their planes
